Social music streaming site Dhingana, run by the US- and Pune-based Dhingana Inc, has shut operations.
âGoodbye! We hope that you enjoyed listening to Dhingana as much as we enjoyed building it. But alas, all good things must come to an end. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us be a part of your musical moments: The Dhingana Team,â the company said in a post on its site.
Last December, there were rumours that Dhingana was looking to ring the curtain down on its service.
Dhingana was founded in 2007 by twin brothers, Snehal and Swapnil Shinde. It raised an undisclosed amount from Inventus Capital Partners and Helion Venture Partners in 2011. In October 2012, it further secured $7 million in Series B, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Existing investors Inventus and Helion also participated in that round. As per the last update, Dhingana had crossed 9 million users globally. It also had launched its paid subscription model in July last year and more recently tied up with General Mobile to pre-load the app on one million handsets.
