VCCEdge has released its Quarterly Deal Update for Q2 2012 (April 2012 to June 2012).

Highlights -

Private Equity:

  • Private equity investments in the second quarter of 2012 are pegged at $1.8 billion spread across 143 deals.

  • The median deal amount decreased 50% from $10 million in Q2 2011 to $5 million. 

  • The average deal value decreased by nearly 27% from $26 million to $19 million during the same period.

  • Private Equity deals under $50 million accounted for 61.5% of total deal volume in Q2 2012.

  • Big-ticket deals ($100 million and above) constituted 35.65% of the total private equity capital invested during the quarter.

  • Private equity exits dropped one third with investments to the tune of $205 million being liquidated across 26 transactions.

    • Mergers & Acquisitions:

    • Mergers & Acquisitions in India declined significantly 65% in terms of deal value during the quarter with $3.04 billion of M&A deal value recorded across 131 deals.

  • The value of Inbound and Outbound deals dropped by 37.20% and 69.21% respectively. 

  • The median deal amount increased from $15 million to $16 million and average deal value dropped by 25% from $80 million to $60 million as compared to Q2 2011.

  • Deals under $100 million accounted for 33.5% of the total deal flow in Q2 2012.

  • Big- ticket deals ($100 million and above) accounted for 73.13% of the total disclosed M&A deal value in Q2 2012.
