VCCEdge has released its Monthly Deal Update for October 2012.

Highlights -

Private Equity:

Private equity investments in India dropped significantly in terms of deal value in October 2012 with just 43 deals recorded, aggregating to $630 million as compared to $1.6 billion across 44 deals in October 2011.

Growth capital/late stage investments decreased from $1.57 billion to $587 million.

The average deal amount reduced from $56 million to $22 million.

The median deal amount decreased from $8 million in Octoberâ€™ 11 to $7 million in Octoberâ€™ 12.

Private equity deals under $50 million accounted for 58.14% of total deal volume in Octoberâ€™ 12.

Big-ticket deals ($100m and above) accounted for 39.49% of the total capital invested.

Private equity exits gained momentum in terms of exit value recording nearly 8.84x increase and exit volume increased by 86% as compared to the same period last year.

Mergers & Acquisitions:

M&A activity in India rebounded strongly in terms of deal value this month where 52 deals were recorded, aggregating to $2.14 billion as compared to $1 billion across 62 deals in October 2011.

Deal values increased by 4.5x and 5.6x across domestic and outbound respectively however inbound deals decreased by 91%.

The average deal size increased from $32 million to $133 million.

The Median deal size increased three fold from $11 million in October 2011 to $34 million in October 2012.

Deals under $50 million accounted for 19.23% of the total deal volume in October 2012.

Big ticket deals ($100 million and above) accounted for 85.3% of the total disclosed M&A deal valued.
