VCCEdge has released its Monthly Deal Update for July 2011.
Highlights-
Private Equity:
- Private Equity investments in July 2011 grew 16% to $980 million from 35 deals compared to July 2010.
- Growth capital/late stage investments went up 14% from $794 million to $909 million.
- The average deal amount went up by over 37% from $24 million to $33 million.
- The median deal value rose from $11 million to $13 million.
- Private equity deals under $50 million accounted for 66% of total deal volume.
- Big-ticket deals ($100m and above) accounted for 43% of the total capital invested during the month.
- Private Equity Exits are pegged at $540 million coming from 15 deals.
Mergers & Acquisitions:
- M&A deal value dipped from $4.20 billion in July 2010 to $1.36 billion in July 2011.
- Compared to the same period last year, deal value dipped by a significant 92% each across domestic and inbound deals.
- The median deal size decreased 26% from $19 million to $14 million.
- The average deal size reduced 3x from $175 million to $57 million during the same period.
- Deals under $50 million accounted for 29% of total deal volume in July 2011.
- Big ticket deals ($100 million and above) continued their dominance accounting for 77% of the total disclosed M&A deal value in the month.
