- Private equity investments decreased 32% in terms of deal value and 4% in volume compared to 2011 levels with investments worth $8.73 billion spread across 619 deals.
The median deal amount remained unchanged at $6 million between 2011 and 2012. The average deal value decreased 13% from $24 million to $21 million. Private Equity deals under $50 million accounted for 63% of total deal volume in 2012, with big ticket deals ($100 million+) accounting for another 2%. Big-ticket deals ($100 million+) constituted 39% of the total private equity capital invested in 2012. In 2012, 26 India dedicated private equity funds were launched, targeting a combined corpus of $3.9 billion. In 2012, 48 India dedicated funds managed to mop-up over $2.9 billion in capital commitments from limited partners. Private equity investors liquidated investments to the tune of $4.32 billion across 143 deals during the year. Mergers & Acquisitions in India in 2011 declined 36% to $27.18 billion as against $42.56 billion recorded in 2010. The median deal amount increased from $11 million in 2011 to $19 million in 2012. The average deal value dipped 8% to $92 million from $100 million during the same period. Deals under $100 million accounted for 36% of the total deal flow in 2012, while small-sized deals (under $5 million) accounted for 11%.
