Transasia Bio-Medicals acquires US firms Drew Scientific and JAS Diagnostics

Mumbai-headquartered diagnostic firm Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd has acquired two US-based companies, Drew Scientific Inc and JAS Diagnostics Inc, from Escalon Medical Corp. The acquisitions were done through Transasia’s US arm, Erba Diagnostics, and would cover the entire business of the two firms including plants and intellectual assets.

Post acquisition, they would become a direct, wholly owned subsidiary of Erba Diagnostics. This is the fifth acquisition by the IVD company (In-vitro diagnostic) in 2012.

Set up in 1979 by Suresh Vazirani, chairman and MD of Transasia, the company is into autoimmune and infectious disease testing in North America. It has also spread its footprint across Europe, Turkey and Russia.

Drew Scientific designs and manufactures analytical instruments for clinical & veterinary haematology and diabetes. Its acquisition will help enhance Transasia’s capabilities to offer proprietary liquid chromatography-based glycated haemoglobin analysers and reagents to the laboratories worldwide.

JAS Diagnostics is a manufacturer of clinical chemistry reagents and offers solutions with excellent stability in different formats of systems packs, liquid reagents and powder reagents.
