Tata Group hires Bank of America dealmaker Ankur Verma

Bank of America Merrill Lynch dealmaker Ankur Verma has joined Tata Sons Ltd, in the first external hire by Natarajan Chandrasekaran after taking over as the group’s chairman last month.

Verma joined the chairman’s office at Tata Group effective Tuesday, Bloomberg reported, citing an emailed response from the Indian company.

He will work with Chandrasekaran, who was named Tata Sons’ new chief in January and assumed office on 21 February.

Verma joined Tata Sons as a senior vice president from Bank of America, where he was managing director in the investment banking division. He has experience in corporate planning, strategy, investment banking, and mergers and acquisitions.

The report also said that the 40-year-old banker was the head of India M&A for technology, media and telecommunications as well as oil and gas at Bank of America.

Verma graduated in mechanical engineering from Delhi College of Engineering and did a post-graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, the report added.
