Tata Capital, a group firm of Tata Sons, has appointed Lauris Capital's Harshawardhan Sabale to head its private equity division. Sabale will join Pramod Ahuja as co-head of the Tata Capital Private Equity Growth Fund and both will be reporting to Shailendra Bhandari.

Sabale has 8 years of experience in private equity and 6 years in consulting. Most recently, he was involved in setting up Lauris Capital, a mid-market buy-out fund. Prior to this, he was with Navis Capital for 4 years as Partner in Hong Kong. He guided Navis entry into India as a buy-out fund. Sabale has also worked at CDP Asia Investments โ€“ the Asian Investment Arm of CDPQ, a Canadian pension fund.

He has also served a stint with Americorp Capital Private Limited, an India based investment advisory and asset management company, and Arthur Andersen, Mumbai.

Tata Capital had appointed Shailendra Bhandari, former MD and CEO of Centurion Bank of Punjab (CBoP) recently in August to head its Private Equity business. Additionally, it had hired J Niranjan from CLSA Capital to head its I-Banking team.

Tata Capital is a non-banking finance entity formed by the Tata Group to hold all its financial services, private equity and investment banking businesses. Early this year, Tata Capital signed an alliance pact with Mizuho Securities (a unit of Mizuho Financial Group of Japan) to jointly offer financial services such as investment banking, private equity, broking and wealth management.
