US-based private equity firm TA Associates has promoted Naveen Wadhera to co-head of Asia operations, based out of Hong Kong. Wadhera, director and country head who set up TA Associates office in Mumbai five years ago, will lead Asia business with managing director Edward F Sippel.
VCCircle reported last year that Wadhera has moved to Hong Kong to help the firm expand its presence across Asian markets and will continue to lead the India office.
Wadhera joins a few other private equity executives who have worked in India and have been elevated to a global role. Others include Nainesh Jaisingh, global co-head at Standard Chartered Private Equity and Ankur Sahu, co-head of Private Equity - Asia at Goldman Sachs.
Wadhera has been with TA Associates—which has raised over $18 billion of committed capital—since 2001, working at Boston and London offices.
He helped set up TA Associates' first international office in London with managing director Ajit Nedungadi before moving to Mumbai to establish India office in 2008.
Wadhera holds a BSc in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
TA Associates' investments in India include big data services and product development firm Fractal Analytics, e-payment processing services provider BillDesk, diagnostics chain Dr Lal PathLabs and Tega Industries, a manufacturer of consumables for the mining industry.
