SunBorne Raises $5.2 Mn For Solar Projects

SunBorne Energy Holdings LLC has raised $5.2 million for a utility-scale solar thermal project  in Gujarat. The company also plans to build large-scale solar plants throughout India, according to reports.

SunBorne Energy was founded by Professor Yogi Goswami, co-director of the Clean Energy Center at the University of South Florida, and General Catalyst.

The early stage company develops utility scale concentrated solar thermal power plants in India along with proprietary technology innovations and local manufacturing and supply chain sourcing that would lead to disruptive reductions in cost of generated power.

UK based General Catalyst Partners’ Managing Director Hemant Taneja serves as its Chairman of Board of Directors. James Abraham, who has earlier worked with Boston Consulting Group, is the chief executive of the company.

General Catalyst Partners is a venture capital and private equity firm that invests in technology with a focus on advanced materials, clean energy solutions, environment related technologies and energy. The firm has raised approximately $1.6 billion since inception across five funds including a $600 million venture capital fund raised in 2007.
