E-commerce marketplace Snapdeal, run by Gurgaon-based Jasper Infotech Pvt Ltd, has roped in Ashish Jain as senior vice president (SVP), investor relations and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) integrations.

An MBA from INSEAD, Jain has over 18 years of experience in analysing M&A opportunities and developing strategic business portfolios for global companies.

Snapdeal has been on an acquisition spree this year, buying programmatic display advertising platform Reduce Data in September and mobile recharge platform Freecharge in April. It has also picked up a minority stake in logistics firm QuickDel Logistics Pvt Ltd which runs operations under the GoJavas brand. It has also bought social product-discovery technology platform Doozton, mobile technology startup MartMobi, mobility solutions company Letsgomo Labs, gifting recommendation technology platform Wishpicker.com, group buying site Grabbon.com, online sports goods eretailer eSportsBuy.com and online marketplace for handicrafts Shopo.in.

In his previous stint, Jain served as associate partner with Mckinsey & Company, where he was responsible for defining strategies and M&A for technology, media and telecom (TMT) companies across Asia. Prior to that he served in key positions in Telenor, UBS and Altera.

The move is yet another top level appointment for Snapdeal and comes a week after it appointed Anup Vikal as its chief financial officer. The appointment indicates the scramble for top talent among India’s large e-tailers, who are looking to bring on board people with experience to support the rapid pace of expansion in the industry.

“His experience and enthusiasm will be pivotal in driving a fulfilling business for Snapdeal’s investors and stakeholders,” said Vikal.

Snapdeal has made several senior hires in recent months, including at least two in the finance team. It hired former Procter & Gamble executive Amit Choudhary as its senior vice president of corporate finance and named former Unilever executive Vivek Patankar as senior vice president of finance.

In June, the company had roped in Anand Chandrasekaran from Bharti Airtel, who was appointed as chief product officer. It also brought in Jayant Sood from Bharti Airtel, who came in as chief customer experience officer. In April, Idi Srinivas Murthy was brought in as senior vice-president for marketing.

Earlier, Snapdeal appointed Gaurav Gupta as VP of engineering, and Jeyandran Venugopal from Yahoo as technology officer.
