Women-focussed career platform Sheroes has acquired Gharkamai.com, an online platform which helps stay-at-home professional women find work, for an undisclosed amount.

“Sheroes helps women to take control of their careers, whether it is home based, part-time, or full time. We are very excited and welcome the users of Gharkamai to Sheroes and assure to help them find career success on their own terms,” said Sairee Chahal, founder and chief executive of Sheroes, in a statement.

Over the last 10 years, Gharkamai, which was co-founded by Kachina Chawla and Manisha Chawla, has offered over ten thousand women a platform to connect with nearly 1500 companies to find project based work.

Indian women’s contribution to the gross domestic product or GDP is far lesser than the global average. In India, women contribute about 17 percent to the GDP, compared with the global average of 37 percent, according to a study by the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), which was released last year.

“We turned working-from-home into a reality for thousands of women, keen on utilizing their experience and skills, whilst balancing the demands of modern life. With Sheroes, that movement grows bigger, reaches further and changes more lives,” said Kachina, who has joined Sheroes as an advisor, on the acquisition.

This is the second acquisition made by Sheroes in the last one month. It recently acquired relationship and sexual health counselling platform LoveDoctor.in.

The acquisitions follow after Sheroes, operated by Applied Life Pvt. Ltd, raised Rs 12 crore in a Series A funding round led by Gurgaon-based investment firm Lumis Partners with participation from The HR Fund, angel investor Rajul Garg and existing investor Raghav Bahl-led Quintillion Media in September.

Sheroes claims to be the largest careers community of women, with members from over 20,000 locations, and 12,000 companies who actively use the platform. The company also runs a career support helpline via phone and app.

While Sheroes happens to be the only job portal focussed on women, there are many others such as Info Edge’s Naukri.com and Monster.com who cater to bother men and women.

Other job portals that also target blue-collar workers are QuikrJobs, operated by Quikr Technologies Pvt. Ltd, and Bengaluru-based Babajob Services Pvt Ltd, which runs the Babajob.com portal.

In July, Delhi-based education technology company Medhavi Professionals Services Pvt. Ltd, which owns and operates online portal iDreamCareer.com (iDC), has raised an undisclosed sum in its second round of angel funding through ah! Ventures, with participation from other investors. The company is also backed by BCCL’s Brand Capital.
