S G Shyam Sundar & R Parthasarathy to co-head Morgan Stanley’s India infra fund

Global financial services firm Morgan Stanley has appointed S G Shyam Sundar and Raja Parthasarathy, former senior partners at IDFC Alternatives, as managing directors to co-head its India infrastructure fund advisory platform, the company said in a statement.

Shyam Sundar and Parthasarathy will assist in overseeing the India regional assets in Morgan Stanley Infrastructure (MSI) portfolio as well as play an important role in the growth of the overall platform.

MSI is part of Morgan Stanley Merchant Banking & Real Estate Investing which is the firm’s direct private investment group.

Shyam Sundar and Parthasarathy have worked together for several years in the infrastructure space. “Raja and I are excited to bring to Morgan Stanley Infrastructure our deep experience in working alongside inspiring entrepreneurs to create value in companies that are accelerating India’s infrastructure development,” said Shyam Sundar, managing director and co-head, India Infrastructure Advisory, Morgan Stanley Infrastructure.

Assets in the Indian portfolio of Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners include a toll road developer, the country’s largest build-operate-transfer bridge project, a wind-focused renewable energy company and a developer of clean power assets.

S G Shyam Sundar has over 17 years of experience in India’s infrastructure sector. Prior to joining MSI, Shyam was one of the founding members of IDFC Private Equity (now IDFC Alternatives). At IDFC, Shyam led investments in a range of infrastructure sectors such as power, telecom, oil & gas, roads, seaports, airports, shipping, and logistics and created successful exits including three IPOs. He has also worked with infrastructure group of ICICI Bank and with ICICI Securities.

He is an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a B.E. (Mechanical) from Anna University in Chennai.

Raja Parthasarathy brings to the table 20 years of experience. Prior to joining MSI, Raja also worked at IDFC Alternatives (formerly IDFC Private Equity) as partner. He has also worked with Jet Airways and UBS Investment Bank and prior to that worked with Goldman Sachs in Singapore and with Lehman Brothers in New York, Hong Kong, and London.

Parthasarathy holds an MBA from INSEAD, an MA in Economics from Tufts University, and a BA in Economics from Hamilton College.
