Religare Enterprises Ltd's investment banking and institutional securities arm Religare Capital Markets Ltd has roped in Shehzad Farid Anwar as Head of its Middle East operations. Recently, it appointed Ankush Pitale of Deutsche Bank as head of its Equity Capital Markets in India.

Anwar was running the middle east operations of independent brokerage and investment group CLSA Ltd as its Managing Director between 2006-2009 and was based in Dubai. He was Director - Head of Equities at BMA Capital Pakistan from 2004 to 2006 and prior to that, between 1999-2003, was Director of ABN AMRO in Asia.

Nick Holtby, Global Head of Equities said, “Sitting as it does at the nexus of many of the world’s key growth markets, the Middle East is a significant area of opportunity for our global emerging markets investment banking proposition.”

Religare Enterprises appears to be building up a team after its acquisition spree, entering South Africa via UK operations of Barnard Jacobs Mellet and taking a 50% stake in Sri Lanka-based Bartleet Mallory Stock Brokers. The firm has also announced intent to acquire Hong Kong-based research platform Central Joint Enterprises (Aviate Global Asia) and most recently picked up a 55% stake in Landmark Partners for $171.5 million.
