Anil Ambani's Reliance Communications Ltd's (RCOM) global communications services business unit Reliance Globalcom Ltd has named William (Bill) Barney as CEO of its three offshore businesses comprising FLAG, Yipes and Vanco, the company said in a release. Barney’s appointment is effective immediately, and he will operate out of Hong Kong and Mumbai.
Punit Garg, president of the firm, will continue to lead the profitable Indian enterprise business of RCOM.
Barney, who has over one and half decades of experience, joins Reliance Globalcom from Pacnet where he spent 10 years, and led the company's successful acquisition of regional ISP, Pacific Internet, which operationally merged with Asia Netcom and re-launched as Pacnet in January 2008.
Prior to Pacnet, he served as Asia Pacific president and CEO for MCI Worldcom (Verizon) where he led the company through a three-digit growth phase. Barney has also worked with the companies like Orange Business Services and Hutchison Global Services Ltd.

Barney holds an MBA degree in finance from Columbia Business School and did his graduation from Wesleyan University.
Reliance Globalcom owns one of the largest private cable network in the world with over 2,77,000 km of fibre optic cabling, including 65,000 km of sub-sea fibre. Through strategic relationships with over 700 network service providers across the world, Reliance Globalcom provides connectivity to 163 countries and territories.
