Corporate law firm Platinum Partners has split into two separate firms from this month, according to a report.

Touchstone Partners and Quillon Partners will operate as independent outfits, Legally India reported. The former will be headed by Karam Daulet-Singh and will have a presence in Delhi and Bengaluru.

Quillon will be headed by Ankit Majumdar and will be present in Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Further, Touchstone has hired Nishith Desai Associates executive Ruchir Sinha to start and head its Mumbai office.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Sinha was operating as the co-head of Nishith Desai’s private equity and mergers and acquisitions practices.

VCCircle has reached out to both firms on the details of this split and will update this report accordingly.

“After many years together, the Mumbai offices of Platinum Partners and the Delhi and Bangalore office of Platinum Partners will be parting ways,” Majumdar said, per the report.

People movement in law firms

The rebranding of Platinum Partners into Touchstone Partners and Quillon Partners is the latest development this year with respect to movement among the country’s biggest corporate law firms.

Earlier this week, VCCircle reported that S&R Associates had recruited two partners from J Sagar Associates to ramp up its banking and finance practice. VCCircle also reported this week that full-service law firm Phoenix Legal had roped in a partner from Legasis Partners, Advocates and Solicitors to be part of its disputes and maritime practice.

Last month, it was reported that HSA Advocates partner Chinmay Mirji had exited the firm to pursue a career as an independent counsel as part of a larger move in taking an active role in public policy.

The New Delhi-based HSA Advocates has made at least four hires this year to strengthen its practice in areas such as dispute resolution, banking, financial services, and M&A.
