OrbiMed Advisors LLC, a healthcare-dedicated global fund with $5 billion in assets under management, has launched a $312-million fund. This is the fourth fund of the company that targets healthcare ventures globally, according to a media report.
In response to an email, sent by VCCircle, seeking confirmation on the development and also details of the new fund, the company responded, saying, “it’s too early to answer the queries.”
Currently, OrbiMed operates three funds of distinct strategies such as mutual funds, hedge funds and private equity funds. It has so far invested in 36 companies globally.
In November, OrbiMed made its debut in India with a Rs 30-crore investment in Ecron Acunova, a Bangalore-based clinical research organization under the Manipal Group. The investment was made through Caduceus Asia Mauritius Ltd, a series under which it manages its funds.
OrbiMed, headquartered in New York, opened its Asia office in 2007 with its main focus being India and Greater China. It has an office in Mumbai.
