Norwest Venture Partners (NVP), a global, multi-stage venture and growth equity investment firm, has promoted Sumer Juneja, currently vice president of NVP India, as principal.
At present, Juneja, who joined NVP in 2009, serves as an advisor on venture capital and growth equity investments of US-based NVP in Indian firms across sectors like technology, consumer, telecom, financial services and infrastructure.
Prior to joining NVP, he was a founding member of global investment bank Goldman Sachs' Asian Special Situations Group (ASSG) in India. ASSG, with over $4 billion under management, specialises in investment and management of a diverse portfolio of asset classes, including private and public equities, structured finance, high yield/distressed credits, NPL portfolios and real estate.
Before joining ASSG, Juneja was working with the industrial and natural resources team in the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs as an analyst, where he actively drove all aspects of the M&A process including financial analysis, due diligence and public and private buy-side and sell-side transactions.
Besides Juneja in India, the global investment firm has also promoted Robert Mittendorff as principal and Lisa Wu as vice president.
The promotions come five months after the firm raised $1.2 billion for its Norwest Venture Partners XII fund. With this new fund, NVP has a total capital commitment of over $5 billion. The fund had a record year in 2013 as more than 11 of the firm’s portfolio companies experienced liquidity events.
“We are recognising those individuals who have made significant contributions to the firm’s growth and reputation, and have added strategic value to our portfolio companies...These promotions reflect our ongoing investment in these talented individuals across multiple stages and sectors,” NVP said in a blog post published on October 1.
Sumer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in politics and economics from London School of Economics.
NVP has been an active investor in India with investments in companies, including Acidaes Solutions Pvt Ltd that runs CRMnext, Cholamandalam Finance, ING Vysya Bank, IndusInd Bank, Asian Genco, Fashionandyou, Komli Media and Yatra.com.
