Mumbai-based domestic help provider BookMyBai.com has raised around $150,000 (about Rs 1 crore) in angel funding from 50K Ventures and Vineel Nalla, CEO of NBOS Technologies and founder of 50K Ventures.
Nano Job Consultants Pvt Ltd, which runs the portal, will use the funds to expand in 10 cities by March 2017, co-founder and CEO Anupam Sinhal told Techcircle.in.
The portal currently operates in four cities â Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat and Pune â and aims to add Hyderabad and Bangalore to the list by January 2016.
"The business has a lot of scope in India where domestic help is a part and parcel of everybody's life," Sinhal said.
The Economic Times reported the development first.
The company was co-founded by Sinhal and Vikash Chowdhury in May this year. The duo had previously co-founded Nanojobs.com, a job portal for blue- and grey-collar workers.
BookMyBai.com helps people to hire maids, cooks, babysitters and caretakers. The company maintains a database of domestic helps and also partners with verified maid bureaus. It charges one month's fees from the customer for the bookings made through its platform.
The company plans to launch its app in the next six months. It expects to close this financial year with revenue of Rs 2 crore.
Broadly, BookMyBai will compete with the likes of Housejoy, Urbanclap and other hyperlocal service providers. Mumbai-based Aasaanjobs Pvt Ltd and Bangalore-based Babajob Services Pvt Ltd also provide a listing of domestic help on their websites.
Earlier this week, online classifieds firm Quikr launched a new vertical called QuikrServices that will help users find local service providers including cooks and maids. However, few firms offer a video interview type of interface like BookMyBai.
Hyderabad-based 50K ventures is a seed and incubator firm founded in 2014. It provides seed and early-stage capital to companies in India, mainly technology startups. It typically invests between $40,000 and $150,000 million in portfolio companies.
