Law firm IndusLaw has hired M Arun Kumar, a former associate partner at Krishnamurthy & Co, as a partner in its Hyderabad office.
Kumar has worked extensively in the infrastructure and real estate sectors, including on acquisitions, divestments and joint ventures.
“The addition of Arun Kumar will position us better than most law firms, locally, to serve clients in the real estate and infrastructure space,” IndusLaw founding partner Suneeth Katarki said in a press note. “Real estate is always an active area of practice in Hyderabad. New initiatives taken by the Andhra Pradesh government in the space will see significant growth in this region.”
Kumar is an alumnus of Symbiosis Law School. He started his career in 2006 with PwC India as an associate, before moving to HSA Advocates in January 2008. Subsequently, he joined Link Legal India Law Services as a senior associate and then shifted to Krishnamurthy & Co in April 2015. In his last job, he worked as a strategic adviser at Wazzeer.com, a company that provides legal, accounting and compliance services.
With Kumar, IndusLaw will have 23 partners and over 100 lawyers across its four offices in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
In April, IndusLaw had hired Saurav Kumar, who was a partner for mergers and acquisitions at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, as a partner.
“Many mid-sized firms are aggressively looking to hire people at the partner level and, in many cases, they are not even shying away to hire entire teams along with the partners,” said a Mumbai-based law firm consultant. “Many mid-sized law firms are waiting for certainty regarding liberalisation of the sector. However, some hiring, like this one, is more strategic by nature.”
