Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co has roped in former Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) executive director Usha Narayanan as counsel for it general corporate and financial regulatory practice at its Mumbai office.
Usha had quit SEBI, where she was responsible for overseeing policies related to the issuance of capital, disclosure in offer documents, continuous disclosures, listing requirements, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and portfolio investments by foreign investors, as executive director in June.
She joined SEBI in 1991 and held senior positions across departments including primary markets, takeovers, FIIs, investigations and intermediaries.
Having put in 35 years in the financial services industry, Usha has also served in International Organization of Securities Commission’s (IOSCO) standing committee, RBI’s conflict of interest committee and the Government of India committee on ADR/GDR/FCCB policy.
Prior to joining SEBI, she worked with the Bank of India for 15 years.
Usha, who has a postgraduate degree in economics from Bombay University, also holds a Masters in Business Laws from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore.
“She has unique depth of experience which will strengthen Amarchand & Mangaldas’s robust securities practice even further,” said Cyril Shroff, managing partner of Amarchand & Mangaldas , Mumbai.
In May, the firm had promoted 13 lawyers to partnership across its Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore offices.
