Khurana & Khurana buys Mumbai-based IP law firm closer2patents

Khurana & Khurana, Advocates and IP Attorneys (K&K), a full service intellectual property law firm, has acquired Mumbai-based closer2patents. As part of the deal, Abhishek Pandurangi, founder of closer2patents, has joined K&K as a partner and head of its Mumbai office.

Started in 2010 by Pandurangi, closer2patents is a boutique IP services law firm with over 300 clients. The firm says it has more than 10 practitioners and a strong prosecution and consulting practice in the IP space.

Pandurangi did not share the deal value but said, "The acquisition of closer2patents by Khurana & Khurana is an action of synergy which will make the strength of 1+1 into 11."

K&K had three offices in Delhi, Pune and Bangalore. With this new deal, it would now be starting with a Mumbai office, which would be spearheaded by Pandurangi as a partner in the firm and would expand the service offerings to the areas of media and entertainment.

K&K is into IP and commercial law practice with over 50 practitioners. The firm was established in 2007.

There has been several standalone deals where larger law firms have snapped smaller outfits.
