JSA gets four new equity partners, two senior partners quit

Law firm J Sagar Associates has elected Ananya Kumar, Anish Mashruwala, Raj Ramachandran and Ravichandra Hegde as equity partners, effective 1 April.

Two of J Sagar’s senior equity partners, Murali Ananthasivan and Mansoor Ali Shoket, have decided to quit the firm and set up their own practice.

Bengaluru-based Ananthasivan, an executive committee member at the law firm, is mergers and acquisitions specialist, while Delhi-based Shoket heads the communications (telecom and broadcasting) practice at JSA.

According to the press note from J Sagar, Shoket’s team will be absorbed within the regulatory practice in Delhi. J Sagar is among India’s top eight law firms with around 90 partners and close to 300 lawyers.

Delhi-based Kumar is part of the disputes practice team, specialising in construction and engineering disputes. He also represents clients in arbitrations and court proceedings arising out of shareholder and joint venture agreements.

Mumbai-based Mashruwala is part of the finance practice, specialising in banking and finance. He has experience in structured finance, securitisation and derivatives, and bank loans.

Bengaluru-based Ramachandran is part of the corporate practice, specialising in private equity and venture capital. He specialises in corporate commercial, banking and finance, and cross-border investments and acquisitions.

Mumbai-based Hegde is part of the disputes practice, specialising in securities regulatory and litigation. He covers diverse areas of litigation and dispute resolution, besides advisory and opinion on various corporate commercial, securities and business and mercantile laws.

“JSA believes in recognising merit and giving our young attorneys recognition and space to achieve their true potential,” said a joint statement from JSA joint managing partners, Dina Wadia and Shivpriya Nanda, and senior partner Amit Kapur.

JSA had closed 62 merger and acquisition, and private equity deals in 2017, the firm had earlier told VCCircle.

Recent exits

Last September, Sumit Sinha had quit JSA to join DMD Advocates’ mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital advisory practice.

In August 2017, Kannan Rahul, a partner at the JSA’s banking and financial services practice, had moved over to Trilegal as an equity partner of its banking and finance practice.
