J Sagar Associates (JSA), one of the leading law firms in the country, has expanded its presence with the launch of a new office in Ahmedabad from Jan 1, 2015, as per a company statement. With this, the law firm will have a total of seven offices in India.
Bijal Chhatrapati, a senior lawyer who has almost three decades of experience, has been inducted as an equity partner of JSA to head the Ahmedabad office.
Before joining JSA, he was with Singhi & Co and focused on dispute resolution, M&A and corporate commercial practices. Chhatrapati is also a solicitor and member of the Bombay Incorporated Law Society.
“For a few years, we had actively considered establishing our offices at Chennai and Ahmedabad these being cities where significant national law firms have not been present. Chennai office commenced operations in April 2014 and we are truly excited to open in Ahmedabad, in a state which has become a beacon for the economic development of the country,” said Berjis Desai, senior partner of JSA.
JSA was founded in 1991 by Jyoti Sagar who retired a couple of years ago. It is one of the leading law firms with a pan-India presence and currently employs more than 340 lawyers and consultants, including more than 80 partners. Last year, the firm elevated two as equity partners and 18 as retained partners.
In March, it merged law firm Vichar Partners with itself to enter Chennai.
