Job postings related to blockchain and cryptocurrency continue to proliferate in India despite regulatory uncertainty, a new report from job portal Indeed said.

According to the report, in the six months to November 2017, the number of cryptocurrency and blockchain jobs posted on the Indeed website rose 290%. In the same period, job searches with keywords related to cryptocurrency and blockchain rose 52%.

In terms of job titles, the top five during the six months to November 2017 with respect to cryptocurrency and blockchain on the website are blockchain developer, blockchain consultant, PR content writer for cryptocurrency, blockchain system architect and blockchain software engineer.

Since the release of the virtual currency bitcoin in 2009, cryptocurrencies have garnered a lot of attention. The report says that as of 30 September 2017, there were 15 million blockchain wallet users worldwide, 1.5 million of these in India, and 200,000 added each month globally.

“While blockchain development promises to be an exciting new field of work and offers tremendous scope for application, the sector is still very nascent. However, the global market for blockchain-related products and services is expected to reach $7.7 billion in 2022, indicative of even more jobs being created in the sector in the future,” Sashi Kumar, managing director, Indeed India, said.

The government's main policy think-tank, NITI Aayog, has announced it is working to set up IndiaChain, India’s blockchain network, to be linked to IndiaStack -- the developers’ code for the Aadhaar project.
