IT giant Infosys, which has been facing a string of top-level exits, has kicked off the process to select its new CEO, as the current chief SD Shibulal has said he would step down within the next nine months.
Infosys said its board has appointed executive search firm Egon Zehnder to assist the nominations committee in identifying external candidates. Concurrently, Development Dimensions International is assisting the firm in short-listing internal candidates who could possibly take over as the next CEO.
Shibulal, currently the chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) of the firm, has expressed his desire to retire as the chief and as a member of the board of directors either on the date of the last board meeting before his superannuation on January 9, 2015 or when his successor is ready to assume office, whichever date is earlier, the company said in the disclosure.
Prior to becoming CEO and MD, Shibulal served as the COO for four years. He has held other senior leadership roles, including head of worldwide sales and customer delivery, worldwide head of customer delivery, head of Infosys manufacturing and distribution, and internet consulting practice.
Infosys has witnessed nine top-level exits since executive chairman and founder NR Narayana Murthy returned to the company in June last year in order to steer back the fortune of Infosys which has been facing severe competition from players like Cognizant Technologies.
Recently, senior vice-president of the company Chandrashekar Kakal resigned from his position.
The other recent top-level exits include those of Infosys director V Balakrishnan, who was the head of Infosys BPO, Finacle and India Business Unit and also served as chairman of Infosys Lodestone; global head of Manufacturing & Engineering Services and chief of Infosys’ American operations Ashok Vemuri; global sales head Basab Pradhan; financial services head Sudhir Chaturvedi and Infosys labs head Subrahmanyam Goparaju, among others.
