Gurugram-based sport consultant and organiser Tabono Sports and Events Pvt. Ltd has raised an undisclosed amount in a pre-Series A round of funding from early- to mid-stage venture firm Inflection Point Ventures.
“With this funding, we will expand our business development, marketing and technology teams to operate the projects we have planned pan-India, focusing on Tier-II and Tier-III cities,” said Abhishek Mishra, founder of Tabono Sports, in a release by Inflection Point Ventures.
Mitesh Shah, co-founder of Inflection Point Ventures, said, “The fitness market in India is evolving, and within that marathon properties are coming up in a big way.” Shah is also head of finance at online ticketing platform BookMyShow.
Shah said, “We will help take Tabono to all major Tier-I and Tier-II cities of India within the next five years.”
Shah said, “Abhishek (Mishra) has finished triathlons such as Ultraman and Ironman, and his expertise in this space adds tremendous value to the proposition.”
Tabono, founded in 2014, currently organises sporting events in three cities: Millennium City Marathon in Gurugram, Lucknow City Half Marathon and Madurai 10km Run.
Mishra holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering. He has done post-graduation in marketing and international business, according to his profile on professional networking site LinkedIn. Before launching this venture, he was working at GE Oil & Gas.
Inflection Point Ventures is a sub-initiative of CXO Genie, a community of chief financial officers and senior finance professionals.
In August, it had backed Delhi-based Wishup, which offers chat-based task management services.
