Tech giant IBM India Pvt Ltd said on Wednesday it has appointed Karan Bajwa as managing director.
Bajwa succeeds Vanitha Narayanan, who has been named chairman, the local unit of International Business Machines Corp said in a statement.
Bajwa had joined IBM last year as executive for strategy and transformation in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to this, he was managing director at Microsoft India.
âI see great opportunity ahead for IBM in this market. By constantly reinventing itself and investing in innovation, IBM today is in a sweet spot to help businesses and governments with their digital transformation journey,â Bajwa said in the statement.
Bajwa will be responsible for all strategic and operational matters related to IBM Indiaâs sales, marketing, services and delivery operations in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Bajwa is also an angel investor and had backed hyperlocal services marketplace FindYahan, which was acquired by on-demand home services platform Zimmber last year.
Both Bajwa and Narayanan will report to Randy Walker, chairman of IBM Asia Pacific.
Narayanan has 29 years of experience working across IBM in several countries. She has been a part of the IBM India and South Asia business since 2009 and was named managing director in 2013.
âAs chairman, Narayanan will play a critical role in enabling capabilities across IBMâs global missions in India, global centres of excellence, research and innovation labs,â the company said.
IBM, last year, had acquired Bangalore-based Sanovi Technologies Pvt. Ltd for an undisclosed amount.
