Online travel company ibiboGroup, part of South African media conglomerate Naspers Ltd, has acquired a minority equity stake in cloud-based hotel technology startup Djubo.com Pvt Ltd for an undisclosed amount.

“ibibo’s aim is to participate in solving problems in the accommodation and transportation industry…Djubo is solving critical pain points of the hotel industry, delivering disproportionate value to the industry. We are very impressed with the Djubo team and the execution that they have demonstrated in a short time span,” Ashish Kashyap, CEO of ibiboGroup, said in a press statement.

New Delhi-based Djubo is a cloud-based hotels sales platform that manages booking confirmations, room hold requests, room queries, online channel partners, booking engine, payment follow up and other services through a single interface. The company, which was started in February, also has presence in The Netherlands. Djubo claims that its solution enabled hotels to not only digitise their price and inventory but also for managing bookings across channels.

Sankalp Goel, co-founder of Djubo, said: “We intend to cross 2,000 hotels within the next 12 months and will therefore be ramping up our sales and marketing efforts. A substantial portion of the investment will be put into product development to bring even more innovative functionality to Djubo and develop it into a robust, end-to-end solution for hotel sales management covering micro-functions as well”.

In India, ibiboGroup owns properties such as online travel aggregator Goibibo.com, online bus ticketing platform redBus.in and travelboutique, a B2B online travel platform. The company has taken redBus to overseas shores by launching operations in Singapore and Malaysia.

ibiboGroup recently pulled the plug from its hyper-local grocery e-tailing venture Tradus. In March last year, ibiboGroup acquired Bangalore-based bus tracking and analytics company YourBus. It recently launched a carpooling app named Ryde.

Founded in 1915 and headquartered in Cape Town, Naspers, together with its subsidiaries, is a worldwide provider of e-commerce, pay-television and print media services. In addition to ibibo, Nasper also has positions in Indian firms OLX and Flipkart.

Recently, Hotelogix – a cloud-based web solution provider for hotel operations – announced to join hands with RezNext for strengthening the companies' focus on the mid-market hotel segment globally.
