WPPâs wholly owned global marketing communications agency JWT is planning to acquire more digital companies in India, Gustavo Martinez, the newly appointed CEO of J Walter Thompson Co. (JWT) told Mint.
Last year, in India, JWT had acquired majority stake in Mumbai-based Social Wavelength, a full-service social media agency. Prior to that, JWT had acquired a majority stake in digital services agency, Hungama Digital Services (HDS), the Mumbai-based digital and promotions marketing division of Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
Other units of WPP have also been actively buying digital media agencies in the country.
Martinez, who flew to India to anoint Tarun Rai as the new chief of its India unit, said JWT is going aggressively in the digital space and it is going to offer a different unit specially created for digital & social content.
He said as he expects to offer services in India, JWT would make more acquisitions. âWe are looking for new specialty in the market and new people are going to bring different units in order to deliver this growth. Acquisitions will be in areas of digital, content and shopper. By shopper I mean retail, online retail, e-commerce and mobile e-commerce,â he said referring to digital agencies which cater to clients in areas such as e-com and m-com.
