Shroff brothers Cyril and Shardul had agreed not to poach lawyers from one another for some time after their separation in May 2015. Even after the expiry of the period, the firms have poached only a few lawyers from each other.
In May, Gaurav Singhi joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. Also, last year the Cyril Shroff-owned firm’s Chennai partner Dorothy Thomas joined Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. Also, Asim Abbas joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas in July last year.
“Shardul Shroff is known to take more time to hire people and he prefers to wait for till he finds the right talent,” said a Mumbai-based consultant who advises firms on placements.
