Doctors search platform Medinfi raises fresh angel funding

Bangalore-based Medinfi Healthcare Pvt Ltd, a pure-play platform for searching doctors and hospitals, has raised Rs 1 crore ($150,000) in a fresh round of angel funding from four new investors including Gurmeet Chahal, senior vice president and head - healthcare of HCL Technologies, among other investors.

Several of its existing angel investors from previous funding rounds too invested more, Ravi Shankar Mishra, founder of Medinfi told VCCircle.

Ram Kumar Kakani, professor at XLRI; Pradeep K Jaisingh, chairman of healthcare startup accelerator Healthstart; Sunil T Vasudevan, former executive with PE firm IVFA; Vijay Ghadge, COO of e-commerce logistics firm Gojavas and Hemant Kaul, ex-CEO & MD of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, reinvested in the company.

This takes the total angel funding in the firm across three rounds to Rs 2 crore.

Medinfi offers a web portal as well as Android app that helps users locate nearest doctors and hospitals for their every-day check-ups. Apart from general physicians, users can also locate specialist doctors.

“With this funding, we would be able to strengthen our content operations in multiple cities while also scaling our user base to both Android as well as iOS users in these cities,” Mishra said.

According to Google Play Store data, Medinfi's Android app has under 5,000 downloads to date. Mishra said it receives roughly 2,000 unique visitors on a monthly basis on the website.

“Whatever traction we have got is based on word of mouth. We are currently focusing to improving the product, to provide users a great experience on both website and app,” he said.

Mishra, who has previously worked as head, retailer marketing, Junglee.com (part of Amazon), started Medinfi last year.

Currently, the application is available for users in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai with information on more than 5,000 verified doctors, hospitals and clinics.

Medinfi users can also review the images, years of experience and other detailed information for more than 3,000 clinics and doctors which were compiled by Medinfi team through actual visits to the clinics.

It is trying to make a space for itself which has some heavily funded startups such as Practo and Lybrate besides HelpingDoc, among others including Just Dial. Many of them also allow users to book appointments.
