ePlanet Ventures, the venture and growth capital investor, has undergone an identity makeover to be now known as ePlanet Capital to reflect shift in investment focus.

The firm, founded in 1999, has been active in India since 2005 with more than half a dozen investments. Some of its most well known investments globally include companies like Skype and Baidu.

ePlanet Capital's operations in India are based out of Bangalore, headed by managing partner Chandrasekar Kandasamy, who also looks after  South Asia and the MENA region. Some of its earlier investments in South Asia region include companies like DVD rental firm Seventymm, software products firm Manthan and internet firm Naseeb Networks.

Last year it closed investments in logistics infrastructure development firm Delex Cargo, clean energy firm Auro Mira and healthcare firm Medfort Hospitals.

"The name change to ePlanet Capital reflects our evolution into a global growth and expansion stage investor with a focus on high-growth emerging markets. We believe that over the next decade, an unprecedented value creation opportunity exists in growth stage innovation-driven private-equity investing, particularly in China and India. ePlanet Capital will focus on this opportunity, and further enhance it through migration of disruptive innovation from US, Europe and Korea to the Asian emerging markets," said ePlanet founder and chairman Asad Jamal.
