Mumbai-based diagnostic chain Metropolis Healthcare Ltd has formed a joint venture with Bramser Corporation, a part of British American Investment Group, to expand pathology services business in Mauritius.
The joint venture has been christened Metropolis Bramser Lab Services Mauritius Ltd.
VCCircle had first reported that Metropolis is forming a JV with British American Investment Group in February this year.
British American Investment Group already has a 200-bed hospital in Mauritius in partnership with Apollo Hospitals Group as Apollo Bramwell Hospital. Metropolis had opened a unit inside this hospital besides its plans to open more centres across the country.
The existing unit serves as a central laboratory with collection points across Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles and Reunion.
It plans to set up 25 collection points across these locations in the coming year.
Ameera Shah, managing director & CEO Metropolis Healthcare Ltd, said, “We are looking at 1,000 tests being performed locally in Mauritius.”
Metropolis, with over 100 labs in India and overseas and 700 collection centres, is one of the largest diagnostic chains in the country. The company was founded by Sunil Shah in 1981 and went on to raise capital from ICICI Venture in 2006. In 2010, Warburg Pincus invested $85 million to buy stake in the firm around half of which went to give exit to the previous investor.
