Cyril Shroff-led law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has appointed David Morley, chairman of UK-based private equity firm Elaghmore GP LLP, as a member of its advisory board.
“In addition to serving as a member of the advisory board, David will be an adviser to the firm and will guide the senior leadership on strategic issues,” Cyril Shroff, managing partner of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, said in a statement. “David’s experience and vision for the future of the legal profession have few parallels. His beliefs and thoughts resonate with the values that form the foundation of our firm,” Shroff said.
Morley has over two-and-a-half decades of experience as a transaction and banking lawyer. An alumnus of University of Cambridge, Morley joined law firm Allen & Overy in 1980. He was elevated as partner in 1988, managing partner in 2003 and senior partner in 2008.
Under Morley’s leadership, Allen & Overy’s revenues almost doubled from £666 million in 2005 to £1.28 billion in 2015 while its profit rose 133% from £245 million to £579 million during the period. The way Allen & Overy navigated the 2008 financial crisis under Morley’s guidance is the subject of a Harvard Business School case study.
“I am looking forward to my association with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and being part of its transformation as it approaches the next century of its journey. Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has been at the forefront of driving change, within the firm, in the Indian legal industry and in the delivery of services to its clients,” Morley said.
Currently, Deepak Parekh, chairman of Housing Development Finance Corporation; Uday Kotak, executive vice-chairman and managing director of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd; Janmejaya Sinha, chairman of Boston Consulting Group - Asia Pacific; and Umakanth Varottil, professor at National University of Singapore are part of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’ advisory board
One of the largest full-service law firms in the country, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has currently over 625 lawyers, including 100 partners. In January 2016, Ashok Chawla, former chairman of Competition Commission of India, joined the firm’s advisory board.
