Law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has announced 19 new partners and four partner-designates, raising its total partnership strength to 132. The promotions took place across the country, with around 42% of the new partners being women, the firm said in a statement.
Cyril managing partner Cyril Shroff said the promotions were a sign of the firm’s steady growth. “Their experience will further strengthen our capabilities to service our growing client base,” Shroff said.
Cyril’s national head of corporate practice Reeba Chacko said the firm had followed a rigorous process while deciding on the promotions.
New Partners
Some of the new partners include Devaki Mankad and S Vivek from the firm’s capital markets practice. Mankad, a graduate of the Gujarat National Law University, has advised clients on matters such as equity-linked instruments, initial public offerings (IPOs), preferential offerings and offshore listings. Vivek focuses on IPOs, rights issues and qualified institutional placements.
Partners from Cyril’s corporate practice include Aishwarya K, Bharath Reddy, Megha Bhargava and Paridhi Adani, who is Shroff’s daughter and is married to Karan Adani, industrialist Gautam Adani’s son. The four have experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate re-structuring, entry and exit strategies, employee stock options and insurance and technology services.
Promotions in the firm’s dispute resolution department include those of Adarsh Saxena, Animesh Bisht and Jyoti Dastidar. The three new partners focus on issues such as joint ventures, shareholder agreements, insolvency, securities laws regulations and white-collar crime.
Rohan Banerjee has been appointed a partner in the firm’s financial regulatory team, while Madhav Kanoria and Vardaan Ahluwalia have been promoted to the insolvency and bankruptcy department. Taher Mandviwala has been made a partner for the real estate practice.
The promotions are rounded out by Aditya Sabharwal, Lakshmi Prakash, Sangita John and Surya Sreenivasan in Cyril’s project and project finance department. Edward James has also been appointed a partner in the firm’s Chennai office.
New partner-designates include Mudit Shah in the corporate team, Radhika Dubey and Shikha Tandon in the dispute resolution practice and Abe Abraham in the employment department.
The promotions come just a few days after the firm hired Abhishek Sharma as a partner and co-head of its real estate practice. It earlier appointed Richa Roy as a partner for its Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and Policy practice. The law firm had last year brought on board UK Sinha, the former chairman of markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), as a senior advisor to its corporate governance think tank.
Cyril is a full-service firm with over 750 lawyers including 132 partners. The firm was created four years ago after brothers Shardul and Cyril Shroff, who jointly ran Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co., divided what was then the country's top corporate law firm as part of a settlement of their family dispute.
