Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, the country’s largest full-service law firm, has hired Abhishek Sharma as a partner and co-head of its real estate practice.
Sharma, who joins after more than a decade at Khaitan & Co, will work out of Mumbai. He will jointly lead the real estate team with Bengaluru-based counterpart Namrata Kolar, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas said in a statement.
“The real estate sector in India presents a major growth opportunity for the firm,” said managing partner Cyril Shroff.
Separately, Sharma said that the firm was looking to create a “leading national real estate practice”.
A graduate of the Government Law College in Mumbai, Sharma specialises in commercial and residential real estate transactions. He has also advised domestic and international companies on matters such as special townships, information technology parks and special economic zones.
This is the second senior hire made by Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas this month. It earlier appointed Richa Roy as a partner for its Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and Policy practice.
The law firm had last year brought on board UK Sinha, the former chairman of markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), as a senior adviser to its corporate governance think tank, the Corporate Governance Centre.
Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas is a full-service firm with over 700 lawyers including 120 partners. The firm was created four years ago after brothers Shardul and Cyril Shroff, who jointly ran Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co, divided what was then the country's top corporate law firm as part of a settlement of their family dispute.
