Bangalore-based Wooplr Technologies Pvt. Ltd, which runs an eponymous fashion discovery app for women, has raised an undisclosed amount in funding from Ankit Nagori, co-founder of healthcare startup CureFit and former Flipkart executive, it said in a statement.
Nagori will also be joining Wooplrâs board, the company told VCCircle.
Just two months ago, Wooplr had raised $8 million (Rs 53.6 crore then) in Series B funding from Sistema Asia Fund (SAF), a proprietary fund of Russian conglomerate Sistema JSFC. In October last year, VCCircle had exclusively reported that the company had raised an undisclosed amount from Astarc Ventures.
âAnkit has seen the evolution of our social commerce platform and his joining the board at this point is, for us, definitely a big win for Wooplr. His vast experience of building Indiaâs biggest fashion marketplace at Flipkart made him the right person to have along on our journey,â Arjun Zacharia, founder and chief executive officer at Wooplr, said in the statement.
Mint was the first to report the development.
The startup was founded in 2013 by four former McAfee employees: Arjun Zacharia, Praveen Rajaretnam, Soumen Sarkar and Ankit Sabharwal.
Nagori, 31, is an IIT- Guwahati alumnus. He resigned from Indiaâs biggest e-commerce firm Flipkart in March last year, along with Myntra co-founder Mukesh Bansal.
Wooplr has pivoted from hyperlocal discovery to becoming a fashion community and e-commerce platform by partnering with brands and social media influencers. It helps customers shop better based on location, occasion, interests and friends. It allows users to upload details of their purchases. The company provides a single-point mobile application to businesses for marketing, community-building and sales.
In March 2016, Wooplr raised an undisclosed amount from InMobi founders Naveen Tewari, Abhay Singhal and Amit Gupta, and chief product officer Piyush Shah; TaxiForSure co-founder Raghunandan G; and former Puma India CEO Rajiv Mehta. It had earlier raised $5 million in Series A funding from Helion Ventures.
Wooplr competes with firms such as Voonik and Limeroad. It claims to have around 200 brand partnerships and 3 million women shoppers on the platform.
