Bangalore-and California-based July Systems Inc, which allows companies to build and manage mobile apps and websites, has raised $2.1 million of a $2.9 million equity round, the company said in a filing with the US SEC. The firm did not disclose the name of the investors.

The firm has also named BJ Arun as CEO. In his new role, Arun will help the firm grow in the mobile apps market.

Prior to joining July Systems, Arun founded California Digital in 1994. He had also earlier co-founded Librato, which provides metrics and monitoring solutions.

“Arun is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who comes with over 25 years of experience in founding and scaling technology companies. We chose Arun because he shares our commitment and passion to improve mobile experiences for our customers,” said Rajesh Reddy, founder of July Systems.

Founded in 2001 by Reddy, a US-based entrepreneur of Indian origin, July Systems offers a self-authoring mobile experience platform for creating and publishing mobile sites and applications quickly, without relying on coding skills or technical expertise. The firm claims that its cloud-based mobile app platform is used by some of the leading brands including CNN, NFL, NBC, ESPN, CBS, Gannett and Viacom.

In February 2012, July Systems had raised $15 million in funding, led by Updata Partners, with participation from Intel Capital and WestBridge Capital.
