Birlasoft ropes in Mindtree’s co-founder Anjan Lahiri as CEO

The CK Birla Group has appointed Anjan Lahiri, one of the co-founders of Mindtree, as chief executive officer (CEO) of its IT services arm Birlasoft, according to a stock market disclosure.

Lahiri will be based in Birlasoft's headquarters in Noida and will lead a workforce of over 4,000 employees. He will also be responsible to bolster its capabilities in the emerging areas of cloud and analytics and will drive synergies with the clients that include Fortune 500 firm across banking and financial services, insurance, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors.

Lahiri started his career with Wipro Infotech and later joined Cambridge Technology Partners. In 1999, along with ex-colleagues from Wipro and Cambridge Technology Partners, Lahiri founded Mindtree, one of India’s leading mid-sized IT services companies. The 51-year-old also worked with Sasken Communication Technologies as CEO but left the company after a year.

"He brings with him a rich experience of growing organisations. His ability to lead high-performing teams to the next level of excellence and maturity will benefit our organisation. Furthermore, with Anjan, we aim to make our delivery teams more agile to changes emerging from end customer behaviour and enable our customers to transform and align to their business goals," said Amita Birla, chairman, Birlasoft.

An alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Lahiri obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering and later an MBA from University of Florida, Gainesville, the US.

Birlasoft, a part of the $1.6 billion diversified CK Birla Group, was founded in 1995. The company provides IT services, including enterprise and custom application services as well as specialised services like testing, analytics and mobility.
