Nisha Kaur Uberoi, co-head of competition practice at law firm AZB & Partners, is joining Trilegal as equity partner to head its competition practice.
“Nisha Uberoi has informed us that she would like to move on from AZB and will be joining Trilegal,” Zia Mody, co-founder and managing partner of AZB & Partners, said in a statement.“Her moving on so quickly is unfortunate. The path forward for the three-partner AZB competition team of Samir Gandhi, Nisha and Rahul Rai was personally exciting for me. Nisha is an excellent lawyer with great work ethic. We wish her the very best,” Mody said.
An alumnus of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, and National University of Singapore, Uberoi started her career with Amarchand Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co in 2002. Later she moved to Singapore-based law firm Rajah & Tann LLP. In 2008, she joined UK law firm Ashurst LLP as senior associate.
In 2010, Uberoi came back to India and rejoined undivided Amarchand Mangaldas. She continued to be with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas as partner after it was split form the parent firm in May 2015. In 2016, she joined AZB & Partners.
“Nisha is aggressive and result oriented. She has an impressive knowledge of merger control and relevant international laws,” said a managing partner of a Mumbai-based law firm who has worked with her in the past.
When contacted, Uberoi declined to comment. Phone calls made and text messages sent to Trilegal’s senior partners Rahul Matthan and Karan Singh did not elicit a response.
Trilegal is ramping up its competition practice. In September 2016, the firm hired Gautam Shahi—who was principal associate at J Sagar Associates specialising in competition law—as counsel. Partner Amit Tambe was looking after the competition practice at Trilegal since 2013 when practice head Rahul Singh left the firm.
