Delhi-based online wedding planner Shaadisaga has raised an undisclosed amount in funding in a pre-Series A round from ah! Ventures, People Groupâs Anupam Mittal and other investors.
FreeChargeâs Kunal Shah and Sandeep Tandon, Dheeraj Jain of Redcliffe Capital and Rohit Chokhani of White Unicorn Ventures were among the other angel investors in this round, the startup said in a statement.
Shaadisaga, operated by Boatman Tech Pvt. Ltd, said it will use the funds to increase the partner base, augment the technology backbone to ensure better customer experience and increase conversion rates.
Mittal, who had earlier founded matrimonial website Shaadi.com, said online wedding planning is a tough business to crack and that he thinks the startup's founders have the commitment to grow the company.
Founded in April 2014 by IIT Delhi alumni Himanshu Kapsime and Manish Garg, Shaadisaga offers personalised solutions and a host of services related to wedding planning. The startup focusses mainly on weddings budgeted between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1.5 crore.
Garg said Shaadisaga helps couples planning a wedding to save 20-30% cost. The startup has a 25-people team and will add more people as it expands, he said.
Kapsime, who is the CEO, handles the technological and product development portfolio for the company while Garg is the COO.
âThe Indian wedding industry, valued at $40 billion, is proving to be one of the sturdiest in todayâs market. Considering the high growth rate of 25-30% year-on-year, promising startups in this space were deserving investors attention,â said Harshad Lahoti, founder and CEO of ah! Ventures.
Wedding portals seem to have caught investors' fancy with a number of startups in this segment raising funds recently.
In April, Mumbai-based Sitara Digital Ventures Pvt. Ltd, which runs wedding solutions portal The Wedding Brigade, raised Rs 4 crore (around $600,000) in pre-Series A funding led by Blume Ventures. The same month, Wedwise Consultants Pvt. Ltd raised seed funding from StartUp Equity Partners.
In March, media house NDTV entered this segment with the launch of wedding solutions platform Bandbaajaa.com.
In February, Hyderabad-based With Ease Technologies India Pvt. Ltd, which operates wedding services provider AppilyEver.com, raised $400,000 in funding led by Varun Aggarwal, founder and COO of Univariety, and other angel investors.
