Anand Ramachandran Prasanna, known in the industry as Anand RP, is joining Morgan Creek Capital Management as a director. Anand, who last week quit his post as investment director at the Asia-focused fund of funds Squadron Capital, will be based in Shanghai.
He will join Morgan Creek in December 2012 and as part of its Asia team, will cover the activities in private investments in Asia, with a particular focus on India.
In India, Morgan Creek was one of the first investors in CX Partners (set up by former Citi Venture Capital India head Ajay Relan) and is also an investor in early-stage fund Kae Capital.
Founded in 2004 and led by Mark W. Yusko, Morgan Creek established an Asia presence in 2007, with focus on investing in private equity funds in developing Asia. The firm, which has offices in Shanghai and Singapore in the region, invests from Morgan Creek Partners Asia.
Anand worked with Squadron Capital for nearly five years and evaluated investments in Asian markets, with focus on India. Prior to joining Squadron in March 2008, he had worked with Sequoia Capital’s Indian investment team, based in Bangalore. Earlier, Anand had worked with the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company. He was then based in Delhi, but had assignments across the Asia-Pacific region.
Anand is also an angel investor and funded Taxiguide, a Bangalore-based online car rental service. He holds an MBA from the FORE School of Management, Delhi, and a BBA from the University of Kerala.
“We look forward to continuing to build out our local and regional presence and think Anand will be a great addition, and expect him to enhance our investment capabilities in the region,” said Jason Zhang, the partner who leads Shanghai-based private assets operations of Morgan Creek.
