Aditya Birla Retail (ABRL), which runs the fourth-largest supermarket chain in the country, has appointed Mohit Kampani, former managing director of Spencerâs Retail, as chief executive officer.
The Economic Times, which reported the development, citing a mail that circulated within employees of ABRL, said Kampani will take over the charge of food and grocery retail business of the firm from October 3.
Email queries sent to Aditya Birla Retail and Kampani did not elicit response at the time of publishing this report.
Kampani is going to replace Vishak Kumar, who will now become CEO for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, a consolidated unit of the Aditya Birla Groupâs branded apparel business.
An alumnus of Xavier Institute of Management, Kampani will be reporting to the groupâs director for retail and apparel business, Pranab Barua.
Kampani, who quit Spencerâs Retail in July this year, has been working with Biswa Bangla Marketing Corporation, an initiative by the West Bengal government to promote the state's dying arts and crafts. Kampani had also been associated with Colgate Palmolive in the past.
Aditya Birla Retail was recently reported to be in talks with Kishore Biyani-led Future Group to sell its mega-market brand âMoreâ.
